Eyeshield21 centers around a boy named Kobayakawa Sena. He is just accepted in to Deimon High School. Even though he wants to start over now that he has changed schools, it seems that he is once again bullied in to becoming an errand boy. After certain events, Hiruma, a conniving and feared person in the school, notices Sena and his incredible speed. Hiruma is able to recruit Sena as an American Football Player in the position of Runningback. He wears a green eyeshield over the front of his helmet and is given the codename Eyeshield 21, so others would not be able to know his identity, which would lead to his recruitment by other sports teams. All this is done as they try to attain the right to compete in the Christmas Bowl, where the two best teams in all of Japanese High School Football duke it out on National TV in a giant stadium
